"brendan" works for webimax, an SEO company, and I'd bet money that Catanese Law is one of its clients.

Isn't a basic understanding of how Internet marketing works key to a less naive approach to privacy?

I do agree that we need to develop a common language about privacy that can be used by lawyers, engineers, advocates and journalists (like me). That would be a good start. But I'd hope the way forward would be more clear and succinct than this post.

cheers,

dtdthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06125376932895006866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7701214358599686821.post-58918741373441469472013-01-30T12:48:40.404+02:002013-01-30T12:48:40.404+02:00I believe the author's point was exactly that ...I believe the author's point was exactly that semantics (formal semantics, that is) *cannot* be left out...Orahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01803620435312441831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7701214358599686821.post-6215478051990018402013-01-30T10:47:55.911+02:002013-01-30T10:47:55.911+02:00I should have said "fortunately or unfortunat...I should have said "fortunately or unfortunately for the Privacy community"..sgSallieGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02164298547091266740noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7701214358599686821.post-9859720845418129802013-01-30T10:25:21.827+02:002013-01-30T10:25:21.827+02:00Definition of Privacy is certainly a philosophical...Definition of Privacy is certainly a philosophical one, agreed? OK. However, this was a tedious read particularly since the concern is for the end user. Fortunately for them and unfortunately for the Privacy community they will not have to read this. Hopefully we will leave semantics out of it when we finally get around to letting them know what we are doing about it..SallieGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02164298547091266740noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7701214358599686821.post-84767214852691190552013-01-29T21:29:18.422+02:002013-01-29T21:29:18.422+02:00Natural rights provides the correct understanding ...Natural rights provides the correct understanding of privacy - one that remains unimpaired by IT.

Trouble is, most people, having been indoctrinated by copyright, are consequently easily able to assume that the power to control what others may do with information disclosed to them is a reasonable 'right' to claim.

We're going to see a growing schism between the supporters of "a 'right' to control what others do with my intellectual work/personal data" and the inexorable reality of the nature of information and those who recognise the indomitable liberty of people to share whatever has been given or disclosed to them.

I've blogged on privacy here: http://culturalliberty.org/blog/?q=privacyCrosbie Fitchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06554471152790988479noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7701214358599686821.post-20447299906790450552013-01-25T18:15:50.886+02:002013-01-25T18:15:50.886+02:00My businesses privacy was attacked online. I hired a California Business Lawyer to help me file a suit and he went above and beyond the call of duty. We won the case, but it is something that I think people are naive about.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03178137115857245301noreply@blogger.com
